Dear Sensei-gata

FYI

The Japanese Language Speech Contest Victoria 2024

Date: Sunday 25th August 2024

Venue: Sidney Myer Asia Centre (Yasuko Hiraoka Room), The University of Melbourne

The Victorian Japanese Language Speech Contest will be held as a live, face to face event. The aim of the event is to give students of Japanese as a second or heritage language the chance to present on a topic of their choice to an audience of peers and community members. A second aim is to provide an opportunity for networking between learners of Japanese, their supporters and the Japanese-speaking community in Victoria.

The High School Senior Division (years 11 and 12),  and the Open Beginners and Open Divisions will be held in the afternoon.

The Contest Guide is available on our website and online registration will be open from 5 August, in the same location.   All eligible applications from the 5th -12th of August are guaranteed a place,  and late applications received from 12-16 August will be accepted only if room is available. Please note there is a limit of 2 candidates per school, but a third candidate may be accepted if room is available. Candidates need to declare on their application if they are endorsed as first or second candidate for their school, or if they are the third candidate, to be waitlisted.
